The Rangers just acquired Ryan Clowe, and are all but guaranteed to re-sign the rugged winger probably before the season is up, thereby saying goodbye to Marian Gaborik.
Yep, there’s just no mathematical way you can fit in Clowe, Stepan, and McDonagh into this team without trading Marian Gaborik. I’m not happy right now. Giving up multiple draft picks for a guy who is playing hurt, and has some awfully hard miles on his frame, and in the process giving up on a multiple 40 goal scorer is a tough pill to swallow here.
If Clowe comes in and start putting up points, then it’s a good move in the short term, long term though, I’m not so sure.
I still call them the Thrashers because, well, I live in Atlanta, to me that’s what this team will always be.
Anyways, regarding this game, I think it’s pretty obvious what happened tonight. The Rangers scored more than 2 goals. They won. It’s amazing how easy it is to correlate those 2 things. Score goals, have an all world goalie in the net, win games. Cause. Effect.
In other breaking news, the sky is blue, and water is wet.
The weird thing about tonight though was that I personally felt that the line of MZA, Richards, and Gaborik were by far and away our best line, and yet the line of Cally, Stepan, and Nash scored all our goals. Go figure.
Give some credit to MZA though, the kid has stepped in and provided immediate help offensively. They may not have scored against the habs, but like I said in the game, they played a pretty good game all things considered. What I didn’t like about tonights game though was the ice time for Kreider and Miller. Those 2 guys played just fine. Why are they not getting minutes but I have to see Taylor Pyatt out there for shift after shift doing his best impersonation of Marcel Hossa or Frolov (play the boards, do nothing else). This is more about their development, and to me, they need to play a little more than what Torts is giving them.
Are they making mistakes? Sure. They are kids, and going forward they are going to be huge parts of this team. Who got the 2 best scoring chances against the Habs? A guy who played pretty much no minutes tonight in JT Miller. Kreider scored the last goal between our 2 consecutive shutouts, and had a few good scoring chances. Why is he in the dog house when you need offense? Like I said, play the kids. Live with their mistakes. They are long term solutions, not guys like Boyle, Pyatt, or Powe.
Just my 2 cents anyway.
The 2 games against the Penguins are going to be huge. We lucked out in not having to play against Crosby, but let’s face it. The Pens OWN us. To get 2 points out of these 2 games would be huge.
