This was a big win for the Rangers this afternoon. Not because it’s important to get right back on the winning track, although that’s important, but because it’s important to get points when your backup goalie is playing, ESPECIALLY when you are playing against a team that just got manhandled the night before. The Rangers did just that, playing a fantastic game, playing Rangers hockey, and using the added dimension that Rick Nash brings to go from having a pretty close game, to a fairly comfortable game for most of the 3rd. The Rangers started off slowly, thanks in part to the afternoon start. I’m not sure why but we’ve never really played well in afternoon games, particularly at the start. Call me confused but it’s pretty consistent. Luckily they were able to weather the storm, and able to overcome a horrendous goal that Biron gave up to come back strong and win. This also includes Biron who rallied pretty well after that goal. He stood strong, didn’t give up ground on the shots, and gave the team more than enough to win.

One thing I loved about today’s game was that all 3 of our big guys got on the score sheet, but they did so while playing on 2 different lines. Another thing? None of them played huge minutes. 15-17 minutes each, none of them were exhausted from being slammed with ice time, and they all put up points, even if Gaborik was kinda MIA for most of this game (season?).

Give the boys credit, they got it done. They grinded their way to another win, they used their big guns to get them another 2 points, they’ve moved up the standings again, and are now 6 points behind the Penguins with 1 game in hand. Will be an interesting fight to the finish this year, that’s for damn sure!
