The Islanders played a really good game. That’s why this game was so even. The Rangers would have manhandled most “crappy” teams like the Islanders tonight as we played a rock solid game start to finish. A few glaring mistakes here and there, but by and large a good solid game.

Obviously though, the heroes of the game were the Rangers “big 3″. Lundqvist, Gaborik and Nash. Henrik was magnificent, particularly when we were down 1 keeping the game close, he’s Henrik, I really shouldn’t ever be surprised when he makes a ridiculously good save (though what’s with him batting pucks super far out now, he never used to do that as much as he’s done recently). Gaborik was decent through most of the game, getting a few good chances, but when it mattered he blasted one through and won us a big 2 points. Would be nice if we could get Gabby to get going here. Getting him going, and getting everyone healthy would really go a long way towards getting us on track.

Then you have Rick Nash. Remember when I said I would have traded Kreider for him if I absolutely had to? Remember that? You see the guy we have now? You see WHY I would have been willing to do that with a genuine chance to win a cup last year? This guy is hands down one of the 5 best players in hockey. Unreal skill to go with a HUGE frame and ridiculous wheels for a guy his size. Monster. Period. Best player we’ve had on this team since Jaromir Jagr. But remember, we brought Nash in to be a piece, not the whole kitten caboodle, we need to start getting Gabby and Richards going to really take the next step. If you want to have a chance to win a cup you need to start getting all your cylinders firing, not just 1 or 2. See Blackhawks comma Chicago for what I’m talking about.
