Only The Rangers – Rangers @ Prusters Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on March 31st, 2013

Leave it to the New York Rangers to play a game really well…and still somehow look like dogshit while doing it.

No seriously, did you see the game? The Rangers outchanced the Habs, they outhit, they played a pretty good game. Marian Gaborik was flying, easily our best player, and JT Miller had a few point blank how-did-he-not-bury-that chances but they still couldn’t find the back of the net. So, instead of talking about the Rangers miraculously ending their seemingly decade long losing streak in Montreal, all we can talk about now is this god-damn team being shut out….AGAIN.

One of the worst offensive teams in the league, despite so much talent, falling even lower on the pathetic scale.

You have former players coming out calling for the coaches head. Then you have Derek Stepan, basically the Rangers best player not named Henrik Lundqvist this year coming out to defend the beleaguered coach. All in all a pretty typical shit-tastic day for the life of a Ranger fan.

Oh, and we get to play the undefeated in march Pittsburgh Penguins twice, and the Winnipeg Jets who somehow have owned us this year.

This could get REALLY ugly, REALLY quickly folks.

That’s all before the trade deadline too.

What would I do this deadline?

Not add anyone of significance.

Instead, I would look to trade Brian Boyle, Taylor Pyatt, Arron Asham, Matt Gilroy, and Darrel Powe for draft picks.

Then, I go with a lineup something like this:

Hagelin – Stepan – Nash
MZA – Richards – Gaborik
Kreider – Miller – Callahan
Thomas – Newbury – Fasth/Ferriero/Haley/Seagal

I would definitely bring up Christian Thomas at the very least to use his lethal shot on the Power Play. And I would look to bring in some more of our kids, and get a little faster. Our bottom lines are way too damn slow. I would also bring up Dylan McIlrath to bring a little snarl to our team…..frankly, this team is a little too easy to play against.

That’s all from me, have a Happy Easter everyone.

I’m Done.

A team this good on paper should not be this bad offensively. SOMETHING has to change.

Tear the team down, fire torts, fire sather, whatever the hell we have to do, something has to be done.

I don’t like knee-jerk reactions, but this has been a long time coming. I’ve had enough. I can no longer twiddle my thumbs waiting for this team to get it. Time is running out, and even if by some miracle they make the playoffs, they are going to get SLAUGHTERED by whoever they play since they can’t be anyone with a half-decent record.

I simply refuse to watch a team not show up 75% of the time. Especially not after playing such a tremendous game against the Flyers.

No, I refuse. I’m done with this fucking team.

They Needed This One – Rangers @ Flyers Post Game Thoughts…

The Rangers had to win this game tonight. I mean, they really had to. A loss here might have sent us spiraling out of control (if we weren’t already). Getting them back into the win column, and getting their bruised psyche a little bit of a break.

More importantly we scored goals….like…more than 2……like….5. 5 goals. For…not against.

Seriously, I can’t even remember the last time that happened. When the announcers said it was against the Bolts way back when, I couldn’t even remember that game, that’s how frikkin god-awful our offense has been.

The re-united trio of Stepan, Hagelin, and Nash were dominant, as they were earlier in the year, but more importantly, they got some help from the other lines, with all 4 of our lines playing pretty well in all 3 zones. Even the goals we gave up were pretty flukey, off a face, and off a skate, tough to defend that kinda crap.

I still have my concerns about Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik, despite that fact that both have had good games in the last 2 played. We need these guys, we can’t afford to trade Gabby (imho) and we can’t do anything about Richards. We just need to hope that these 2 superstars remember who they are, and soon.

Derek Stepan…holy crap, this kid is turning into a stud before our eyes. Hockey IQ>All. Stepan is proof of that. Wow.

People like to talk about Chris Kreider, and how he’s now playing with some confidence…and I agree with that. I also think the kid is moving his feet…like, for the entire shift. Before, he would skate hard, then lollygag around for 20 seconds, then change. Now, he’s busting his ass the whole shift, it’s amazing how much that can change how a player looks out there. It’s the same thing with Gabby, when he’s working hard, he’s much more noticeable, when he’s a lazy asswipe, we all notice it, and don’t appreciate it.

MOVE YOUR EFFING FEET!!!!!!!!!

Getting Ridiculous Capitals @ Rangers Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on March 25th, 2013

In a season that’s very quickly becoming a lost one, this Rangers team is becoming almost absurd in its inability to score goals. I mean, seriously, when was the last time the Rangers scored 3 goals in back to back games? I’ll tell you when…nearly a month ago.

Yep.

Tell me that doesn’t make you at least a little sick to your stomach.

Here’s what pisses me off more than anything, it’s that the Rangers aren’t playing awful hockey. They really aren’t. Most nights they are ok, but you can’t say that they’ve given up, or quit on the coach or anything like that. The fact of the matter is, they just can’t get it done. I can’t tell you why, I can’t tell you how to fix it, all I know is, somethings gotta give. A team with this much skill should not be this bad. Period.

I’m not happy, neither should you.

The absolute last thing we should do, IMHO, is to fire John Tortorella. I know everyone wants to do that right now, but to me that’s a knee-jerk reaction. I don’t think it solves our problems, I don’t think this team will all of a sudden learn to score 5 or 6 goals a night, every night. I think all it would do is set back all the great things Torts has done, getting kids to buy in, integrating that youth with almost no fear whatsoever, and getting that youth to perform. Look at Stepam, look at Michael Del Zotto, hell, look at the way Kreider played tonight. Torts deserves a helluva lot of credit.

Now, if only Brad Richards, Marian Gaborik, and Rick Nash could actually score, we’d be fine. Seriously. Those guys should have at least 25-30 points a piece right now…Only Nash is at 25, the rest are far below, and Richards is barely half that. Completely unacceptable. Though, to be fair, I’m seeing signs from Richards and Gabby. Gabby for some reason was again thrown to the 3rd line, which I could not tell you why, I thought he played fine with Richards and Nash for the most part….Maybe it was just reward Kreider…maybe not, either way, it was a bit of a headscratcher.

Lots to be angry about, but Torts isn’t the problem. It’s the players.

Misleading – Panthers @ Strangers Post Game Thoughts..

Posted by inferno272 on March 22nd, 2013

The final shot total, whatever the hell it ended up being, was a complete crock of shit. I don’t care what anyone says, we didn’t have very many quality chances that Markstrom actually had to make a tough save…frankly the only one that comes to mind was the one Halpern had. Everything else was shot right into his chest, or, if you’re Michael Del Zotto, 45 feet high and wide.

This was nothing less than a God-Damn disgrace.

You heard me. This was unacceptable.

People want to say crap like, “trap game”. How the hell can a team fighting for their lives fall into a trap game? They aren’t that much better than this team. We, quite frankly, suck right now compared to them.

Why? Because they seem to give a shit about winning, playing hard, actually giving a rats ass about the jersey they wear. Right now this team seems to sleep walk through long periods of time, and when they do play well, they aren’t actually creating anything other than cycling the puck leading to low percentage shots from the point. There are no quick passes leading to 1-timers, it’s always cycle, cycle, cycle…then…NOTHING.

Devil Of A Time – Rangers @ Devils Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on March 20th, 2013

This was a very sloppy game tonight through the first 2 periods. It’s very un-Ranger like for the Rangers to just try to go toe-to-toe offensively with a team and hope their guns can put in more than they give up. Tonight, they did just that….for 2 periods anyway. Henrik Lundqvist was flat out brilliant, but Johan Hedberg was as well. Hedberg had at LEAST 6 game breaking type saves or misses. However, the Rangers did tighten up their game and I felt played a fantastic 3rd period. They gave up a few chances here and there, but for the most part played the Rangers hockey of last season to a T. Get a win, play hard on the puck, hit, forecheck, move around, grind out a win.

Oh, and it doesn’t hurt when, for once, you can say that both Marian Gaborik and Brad Richards played phenomenal games. When your big guys are playing well, it makes everything else a hell of a lot easier. Sure, Richards and Gaborik may not have scored, but they had numerous chances, created all sorts of havoc, and looked to finally get their games back on the right track. By the way, I proposed re-uniting this trio WEEKS ago, but, I digress…

There are 2 things that are becoming ever-so-clear to us Ranger fans. First, Michael Del Zotto has the ability to be a top pair defenseman. He’s not always that good, but the last 2 nights he’s been downright incredible. His defensive plays has been superb (ignore the Zajac goal, it happens), and he’s been jumping into the play offensively far more often, and been pro-active rather than re-active, which is what Torts wants. Keep that up MDZ!

The other thing that has slowly become apparent is that Anton Stralman was an absolute gem of a steal by Glen Sather. It’s been a process, but slowly but surely Torts, Schoenfeld and Sullivan have turned Stralman into a legitimate top 4 defenseman, and a borderline ELITE #5 defenseman. I can say this without any hesitation, but when Stralman is out there, I pretty much expect him to have a good shift, when he doesn’t I’m shocked. Stralman has been incredible, we’re really lucky to have him.

Rangers now need to make sure they bury the Panthers on Thursday, turn this into a legitimate winning streak…we need to start gaining some ground so we can avoid playing Pittsburgh, Montreal, or Boston in the first round if at all possible.

I’ll Take It – Hurricanes @ Rangers Post Game Thoughts

Posted by inferno272 on March 19th, 2013

This was an important win, for sure, but I think we should all acknowledge, this wasn’t a “good” win. The Rangers did not play a good game. They had a pretty mediocre start to the game, they STILL couldn’t finish the chances they had, and they gave up WAY too much to a team that’s not all that good in the Carolina Hurricanes.

I’ll take the points, but I don’t think, by any stretch, that this team has figured out its problems.

There was one huge positive for me in this game though, and that was the emergence of Michael Del Zotto. MDZ has had an up and down season thus far, but tonight he was outstanding, he played really well on both sides of the puck, and really did an awesome job of making plays in the offensive zone without being a turnover machine. He set up many of the Rangers best chances and to me, was the Rangers #1 star despite not really getting on the scoresheet.

Not a fan of Hamrlik myself…He’s slow, mediocre defensively, and doesn’t really punish with hits for a slow guy. Really, he’s a body. I guess he’s better than Matt Gilroy, but boy oh boy Marc Staal can’t get healthy quick enough.

If I’m Torts, I keep Gabby, Nash and Richards together, this was maybe the best Brad Richards has played all season, Gabby looked pretty good as well, and Nash had his moments (he looks tired out there far too often for some reason). The 2nd line of Hagelin, Cally and Stepan all play very complimentary games so keeping them together is really a no brainer. All 3 are excellent on the boards, and they can find each other very easily.

Keep it going!

Rangers @ Penguins Post Game Thoughts…

I have nothing more to add.

Anger

Posted by inferno272 on March 14th, 2013

You know, I don’t get angry very often…but tonight I was angry…I was PISSED THE FRAK OFF.

It’s not because we lost. It’s not because Gabby, Nash, and Richards each had at least 1 point blank chance and couldn’t put the puck home.

You know why I was so furious? Because the Jets dictated exactly how the game was going to be played. When they wanted to turn it up, it was turned up. When they wanted it to get physical, it got physical. When they wanted to speed it up, or slow it down, it happened just the way they wanted it to. Every…single…time.

I get the fact that we’re struggling right now, I really get it. We’re fighting it. JT Miller is proof positive of that (did he make a single play tonight that didn’t wind up as a turnover?) But what I can not…what I WILL NOT do is accept this team having the game taken to them by a team they are directly competing against for a playoff spot.

Where are the balls?

Did Prust take em with him?

I feel really…really pissed off, and it gets a helluva lot tougher with Pittsburgh up next.

Eh, Not Sure I Agree – Rangers @ Sabres Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on March 12th, 2013

Torts ripped into the Rangers after this one. He said we stunk, we sucked, nobody showed up, our top guys blah blah blah.

I’m not sure I agree.

Do I think we played a great game? No, not at all. I thought we were mediocre. But I don’t think we were as bad as Torts seemed to think. Was the passion lacking a little? Yeah, I thought it was, but I don’t think the Rangers didn’t try. They did. They had some good chances, they didn’t score. The Sabres were totally beatable tonight, and that Torts agrees with me, but I don’t know if we lost so much as they did just enough to win.

I’ve been disgusted a lot while watching the Rangers this season…tonight really wasn’t one of those games though.

Meh.
