Why did I want the Rangers to go get Rick Nash last year, and the entire offseason? Have you been watching so far? The guy has been unbelievably snakebitten and is still basically a point a game player. He scored a gorgeous goal tonight to basically give the Rangers the win (not the game winner, but a momentum shifter for sure). To be fair though, he did have to redeem himself after that giveaway leading to Stamkos’ first goal.
I gotta give credit where credit is due though. I hated on Biron a LOT last year, and on top of that I didn’t want the Rangers to bring him back this year, instead going after someone like Gustavson. So far, I’ve been wrong. In relief of Henrik in the 2nd game, and again tonight, he’s looked outstanding. Cool, calm, collected, and not only making the saves he should, but making several he shouldn’t. In short, he gave the team a chance to win. Not much more you can ask from a backup. Great job Marty.
How about that 2nd line of Pyatt, Hagelin, and Stepan? They played great, all 3 seemed to have their legs going, and of course Hagelin was again all over the place, disrupting plays everywhere, getting in hard on the forecheck, scoring a goal, getting a helper, and almost setting Stepan up for another, and if Brad Richards was able to finish, he would have finished with another helper to boot. This kid has been playing really really well.
I hope the Rangers can get healthy soon, the 4th line of Bickel, Rupp, and Firerreriioerrero was just….well it was scary to watch them. I like Asham with Boyle and Halpern, the trio were defensively responsible, and played well in limited minutes, but the 4th line? Rupp is done, Bickel has been putrid in nearly every single game, and Firererrrio doesn’t seem like a 4th liner…he needs to play with guys who can keep up with him to be effective. Put him with Callahan and Kreider and see what they can do.
That’s all for me tonight. Go 49ers! (I’ve always been a niner fan for the record)
