This one is going to be a little short since I’ve had a long work day, and I’ve gotta be up in 4 short hours for work again. I thought, outside of the first 10 minutes or so, the Rangers were pretty good today. Give Uncle Daddy some credit, he was very good. The Rangers just couldn’t finish, further proving my contention that they desperately need another offensive threat in their lineup. I’m not talking Tuomo Ruutu. I’m talking Bobby Ryan, Teemu Selanne, or, my the guy we might be able to steal from Columbus, Jeff Carter.

Carter would give the Rangers something they desperately need. A shooter to play with Richards. A guy who can finish. A 30-40 goal scorer. I’d be willing to do Wolski, Dubinsky and a 2nd for Carter. I think that could get it done too. Rangers would actually be shedding more salary for this season, and would only be taking on a million going forward. While Carters contract is extremely long, it’s not as bad as Brad Richards contract is, and really, if you aren’t going to give Richards someone who can shoot the puck, then what’s the point of having him? Playing him with superstars like Fedotenko, Prust, Mitchell, etc isn’t going to help him, or us.

Let’s face it, Brandon Dubinsky hasn’t played well this season in the offensive zone. Next to no offensive production from a guy pretty big money. Carter only had 4 fewer points than Dubi in 16 fewer games played.

The Rangers are not going to be able to grind themselves into a Stanley Cup Championship. You need guys who can score. Right now we have very few guys you can say are legitimate scoring threats everytime they are on the ice. Gaborik, Callahan, and maybe Richards. That’s not near enough.
