Yep, that time of the year again. The time when I get really angry about the Rangers effort. Luckily so far this year it has not been necessary. The Rangers have worked extremely hard in nearly every game so far this year.

It was bound to end sometime, looks like that time was tonight. The Rangers were quite simply outworked every minute of every shift from the start of the game till the end of the game. Forwards, Defense, Goalie, everyone looked flat, lazy, and horrible. The knee jerk reaction is probably to tear Michael Del Zotto a new one and to blame him for the loss, especially considering nearly every shift he had in the game seemed to end with either the Avs scoring, or at least getting a quality scoring chance. Del Zotto was awful, true, but he wasn’t the only one. Christensen was terrible, Gilroy was a disaster, Boyle looked like the Boyle from last year, Sean Avery didn’t do squat out there, Henrik Lundqvist was extremely shaky in this one. Simply put, everything seemed to go wrong.

Here’s the problem though. The Rangers are not a talented team. We are wholly mediocre in terms of sheer talent. A team that does not have talent is by definition forced to outwork the opposition since they can not go toe to toe with the more talented team. For the most part, the Rangers have been successful at that, but not tonight. Let’s just hope they don’t make a habit out of it.
