I myself have been in contact with the Rangers PR regarding a few simple email interviews with prospects. As you know I was scheduled to have interviews with a few Rangers prospects, including Bobby Sanguinetti, Evgeny Grachev, and a few others. Each time I went to the player directly because as soon as the team found out about it…it was squashed. Unfortunately since I wanted the kids to answer your questions directly, when I advertised the fact on the HFBoards or other message boards, it would seem the kids were told not to answer my questions. I personally do not think that blogs should be allowed to be part of the official press. I think they tend to lack the ability to handle that, and in most cases their writing (including mine) is amateurish at best. However the NHL Draft should be an exception. It’s an event that really isn’t given enough coverage for the casual fan. The newspapers almost ignore it except for some blog info that the official papers run, and that’s about it. For certain things I think blogs should be given more leeway, like interviewing prospects, or going to the draft or what not. When it comes to actual interaction with the big club, I feel there is enough information out there that the team needs to control it a little better.
