Seemingly every time they make a move I despise, the Rangers used that banked hatred and undo it by making a move I absolutely love. Rangers just signed a guy who you can pencil in for 20 goals, 30 assists and 50 points…if not more, and only gave him 1 year, 1.1 million dollars….doesn’t this make the Kotalik signing (a player who is no better than Prospal) seem that much more retarded now?).

With another winger in the fold it also makes it easier to trade for Dany Heatley, as well, for the record. We definitely have a surplus of wingers, so if it takes Callahan, Rozsival, Lisin and a draft pick, or something like that, signing Prospal makes it much easier to make that deal.

Of course that is all speculation by me at this point, however I do find id quite puzzling as to where all these wingers are going to play. Right now we have Callahan, Avery, Higgins, Kotalik, Prospal, Brashear, Lisin, Voros, Rissmiller, and of course Gaborik. That’s not even including the kids like Byers, Grachev, or a vet-kid like P.A. Parenteau who should get a shot at making the team.

It almost seems like we are stockpiling quantity to make a trade, or perhaps we are literally going into camp with every job up for grabs, and whoever gets it, makes the team, and the rest of these guys walk.

EDIT:
Just wanted to throw some math our your way… Let’s say we trade Lisin, Callahan, Rozsival, and McDonagh (and maybe a draft pick or a lower level prospect) for Dany Heatley and Jason Smith. That should work out cap wise for the Senators. Then you can waive Smith since he is pretty much done, and sign Bouillon.

Then your team would look like this:
Heatley – Dubinsky – Gaborik
Higgins – Drury – Kotalik
Prospal – Anisimov – Avery
Byers – Boyle – Brashear
Arnason, Voros

Staal – Girardi
Redden – Bouillon
Potter – Gilroy
Heikkinen

Lundqvist
Vally

Cap wise that works out to this:

To me, this is a team that can go toe to toe with any team in the East. You’ve got primary scoring, you’ve got secondary scoring, you’ve got some snarl, you’ve got some size, you’ve got some speed…the thing we are a little thin on is defense, but that is the price you pay for all these offensive weapons..and really why else do you have Henrik Lundqvist back there if not to cover for the defensive mistakes. I would go to war with this team.
