Just A Quick Hit…

Posted by inferno272 on August 27th, 2009

My source has let me know that Heatley to the Rangers is still a very real possibility. Apparently things with Dubinsky are not progressing well at all.

I dont know what to make of that because it would be really hard to trade Dubi for another winger…almost doesn’t make sense unless you feel comfortable with Prospal at center, which I am kinda iffy on. Still though, if you have the chance to add Dany Heatley to your team, you do it.

SON OF A BITCH!!!

Apparently DirecTV will no longer be carrying Versus this NHL season…which means those out of market people who have no choice but to use DirecTV will miss about 5 or 6 games a season, plus the playoffs. Yes…I am unhappy right now…

The Yo-Yo Continues - Rangers Sign Prospal

Posted by inferno272 on August 16th, 2009

Seemingly every time they make a move I despise, the Rangers used that banked hatred and undo it by making a move I absolutely love. Rangers just signed a guy who you can pencil in for 20 goals, 30 assists and 50 points…if not more, and only gave him 1 year, 1.1 million dollars….doesn’t this make the Kotalik signing (a player who is no better than Prospal) seem that much more retarded now?).

With another winger in the fold it also makes it easier to trade for Dany Heatley, as well, for the record. We definitely have a surplus of wingers, so if it takes Callahan, Rozsival, Lisin and a draft pick, or something like that, signing Prospal makes it much easier to make that deal.

Of course that is all speculation by me at this point, however I do find id quite puzzling as to where all these wingers are going to play. Right now we have Callahan, Avery, Higgins, Kotalik, Prospal, Brashear, Lisin, Voros, Rissmiller, and of course Gaborik. That’s not even including the kids like Byers, Grachev, or a vet-kid like P.A. Parenteau who should get a shot at making the team.

It almost seems like we are stockpiling quantity to make a trade, or perhaps we are literally going into camp with every job up for grabs, and whoever gets it, makes the team, and the rest of these guys walk.

EDIT:
Just wanted to throw some math our your way… Let’s say we trade Lisin, Callahan, Rozsival, and McDonagh (and maybe a draft pick or a lower level prospect) for Dany Heatley and Jason Smith. That should work out cap wise for the Senators. Then you can waive Smith since he is pretty much done, and sign Bouillon.

Then your team would look like this:
Heatley - Dubinsky - Gaborik
Higgins - Drury - Kotalik
Prospal - Anisimov - Avery
Byers - Boyle - Brashear
Arnason, Voros

Staal - Girardi
Redden - Bouillon
Potter - Gilroy
Heikkinen

Lundqvist
Vally

Cap wise that works out to this:

To me, this is a team that can go toe to toe with any team in the East. You’ve got primary scoring, you’ve got secondary scoring, you’ve got some snarl, you’ve got some size, you’ve got some speed…the thing we are a little thin on is defense, but that is the price you pay for all these offensive weapons..and really why else do you have Henrik Lundqvist back there if not to cover for the defensive mistakes. I would go to war with this team.

I know the posts have been few and far between, but I really can’t think of much to say…this isn’t really a news site, I don’t bother posting links to signings and stuff because I figure you can get that anywhere, especially this site which is great for links. Anyway, I am just waiting to see if the Rangers sign Bouillon. The rumors are rampant but until I see it on NHL.com, I will assume it is nothing more than a rumor. I think this is a strong signing if it does happen. A #6 defenseman for a very cheap very short term contract who brings in some desperately needed toughness on the back end. Definitely a perfect storm of circumstances. It also makes it easier to trade a guy like Rozsival for a guy like Heatley knowing you wont have to have 3 rookies back there on defense if you decide to pull that trigger.

More thoughts when something concrete happens.

Utter Stupidity

Continuing in a remarkably bad offseason the Rangers walked away from a 24 year old 60 point player over a few hundred thousand dollars. I simply can no fathom how this team will now be better than the one the finished last season. Clearly it should be better than the one that started last season, but the one that finished was, in my personal opinion, significantly better than this group now.

The only way I can rationalize this as being a good move, is if they couldn’t find any takers for him and they are still serious about acquiring Dany Heatley, otherwise this is about as piss-poor asset management as I have seen in the NHL in a long while. How many times do you have 100% control over where a young scoring winger plays and you walk away from that? Especially because of a 20/20 player like Kotalik whose signing truly defies all logic.
