The Rangers were not good tonight. Let’s just get that out of the way. Games like this, where the team is flat…they happen, especially with long layoffs, 3 new players getting huge minutes, a new system to absorb, yadda yadda yadda. But you know what? They won. And you know what else? They didn’t win just because Henrik was outstanding…he certainly was. They won because they were also able to put the friggin puck in the net. Not once, not twice…but four separate times. For those of you keeping track at home, that’s 10 goals in 2 games for this club that, according to some, did not have the offensive talent to score goals.

Yeah…that’s me rolling my eyes.

The New York Rangers have the talent to score goals, they always have. They now play a system though that protects them from having to be too individualized. They are a team of scorers, not a team with a scorer. What I love is that Henrik bailed his team out, which were exceptionally sloppy, but also his team bailed Henrik out when he was unable to be perfect and gave up 2 goals.

The difference between tonights game with Renney behind the bench? We lose 2-0, and Henrik takes a beating on the message board for not keeping it a 0-0 tie. Gotta love perspective.

I love that this team now has a system that can win them games when they suck, and can win them games against the best teams in the league…which is something we will see very soon.

One last thing, I just wanted to say that the coolest thing in the world is going to happen to me tomorrow. Following the Thrashers-Canadiens game tomorrow, my hockey team is getting to play one of our games at the Philips Arena. It’s an incredible honor, and just incredible to even be able to say. I wanted to thank the Atlanta Thrashers organization for allowing us to do this, it is very gracious of them. I better get to bed, want to be nice and rested before I unleash hell tomorrow! :-D
