Here is what my source is telling me. Again whether you choose to believe this or not is irrelevant. I dont charge for these rumors, I just pass them on…

All major trades revolve around Scott Gomez. If the team is able to swing a big deal he will center it.

The most likely scenario at the deadline will be smaller deals made by the team.

Players unlikely to be acquired but being discussed nevertheless:

Vincent Lecavalier-
Who on earth wouldn’t want this guy on their team. My contacts are telling me that the big hold up on this from being discussed more seriously is Marc Staal. The Lightning are asking for a package including Gomez, Staal, Dawes, Sanguinetti and 09 1st Rounder as well as a 2010 2nd Rounder. Obviously for the Rangers giving up both Staal and Sagunietti is not an option.

Martin St. Louis- Besides the obvious Tortorella connection, Martin St. Louis does have a family connection to New York Area. The Lightning are looking for a package of Prucha, Dawes, Kalinen and a 09 1st Round pick. Being weary of St.Louis age combined with the talent in the upcoming draft as well as the possiblity of a resurgence from Petr Prucha under Tortorella the Rangers are unlikely to take these discussions further.

Keith Tkackhuk- Great power-forward who a week ago was all but going to be traded. With the winning ways of the St. Louis Blues, it is unlikely to see him move. However, at the time there was discussion of Petr Prucha, Dimirti Kalinen and a 1st Round Pick going to the Blues.

Ed Jovanovski-
Sources say the Rangers have had interest in him for the past two seasons and even going back to when he was a free agent. Not much in terms of details of who would be going where but his name has been discussed.

Players likely to be acquired:

Marek Svatos-
As of right now the only hold up on this deal from going through is that the Rangers would like to acquire Marek without dealing Petr Prucha in return. Colorado has initially proposed a deal involving Prucha a mid pick for Svatos.

Marc-Andre Bergeron-
The Rangers are in need of a great powerplay defenseman. This would fit the bill. Sources say that Kalinen and a mid pick could be going the other way.

Radek Bonk-
I have heard from a reliable source that the Rangers are flying under the radar with their interest in him. Not sure who or what would be going the other way.

Derek Morris- My pick for the most likely deal to go down for the Rangers at the deadline. The only thing I am hearing which could prevent such a deal is if other premier defenseman such as Bouwmeester, Pronger, Kaberle are not dealt which would make the price to high for the Rangers. A well placed source says Barnett is pushing for the acquisition of Morris. Names I am hearing are Prucha/Kalinen/Voros/Dawes/high pick.
