We beat the worst team in hockey by 1 fluke goal that any non retard goalie woulda saved, and an empty netter.

Im thrilled….this is me being thrilled.

Status Quo – Rangers@Blues Post Game Thoughts…

Want to hear a sickening stat?

Are you sure you do? It might make you throw up all over your keyboard.

Ok, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

The New York Rangers have scored 2 or fewer goals during regulation time in 38 of their 58 games played.

38 games!!!!

We’re talking 66% of the games the Rangers have played this season, Henrik Lundqvist or Stephen Valliquette has had to allow 0 or 1 goal in order to pick up a regulation win. 66% of the games?!?!?!?!? Are you freaking kidding me? We’re literally talking about 2 out of ever 3 games the Rangers goaltending has to be more or less flawless in order to pick up a win. Want to make your eyes really bleed? In 15 games this season, or 26%, the Rangers have scored 1 or fewer goals!!! 1 out of every 4 games the Rangers goalie literally need to be 100% perfect in order to pick up a regulation win. Somebody, ANYBODY…explain to me how Tom Renney still has a job?

Worst offense in the NHL? Big check mark there. 3rd worst power play in the league? Big check mark there as well….Did you know that every other effing team except for the Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders have at least 1 guy with more than 18 goals scored….EXCEPT FOR US?! And remember, the Wild lost Gaborik for the season, if he wasn’t out, he would easily have over 18 at this point. You’re telling me that this is the worst offensive roster in the entire NHL (when factoring games in hand, the Rangers lag behind the Isles)? Seriously?! This sickens me folks, this absolutely sickens me. You can not play 1 out of every 4 games perfect, it is humanly impossible. You can not play 2 out of ever 3 games near perfect, that is also humanly impossible. The fact that we are where we are is a testament to our goaltending, but even now our goaltending is beginning to show signs of faltering under the constant pressure of demanded perfection. Here’s a tip Renney, we suck because you don’t have a fricking clue how to coach the offense. Hell, give me a mediocre, ~15th ranked Power Play that doesnt give up an ass load of goals against. Let’s hypothetically say our PP% was 14th in the NHL, at 19.6%, and that we had given up an average number of SHG..5. Do you know how that changes our stats? Just an average Power Play? We go from a goal differential of 144 goals for, and 162 goals against to 159 goals for and 153 goals against. Think that 24 goal differential might make a difference in our record? Seriously, think about it, a mediocre Power Play would probably bring us from 6th in the East to neck and neck with Jersey in the division.

But no, for Renneys entire tenure here the Power Play has been brutal sans Jagr going apeshit right out of the lockout. No movement, no plan, just playing with the puck like it’s a live hand grenade. Nothing in terms of chances generated. It kills our momentum, it kills anything we manage to accomplish, and yet this jackass continues to sit behind the bench. If for no other reason, Glen Sather should be fired for subjecting us to this neutered bullshit hockey style we are forced to watch night in and night out. Are you effing entertained watching your team score 2 or fewer goals 66% of the effing time?! I sure as hell am not.

Want to know why the Rangers get no play in the newspapers Steven (from the NYRangerscast?). Because its more effing exciting to watching CC Sabathia throw 20 pitches in the bullpen, than to watch this disgrace of a hockey team. What is there even to write about at this point? I’m guessing Larry Brooks’ next headline will be something along the lines of….we suck, I give up, please assign me to watch Golf like Sam Weinman.

This team disgusts me, and it should disgust you too. And anyone who still has any sympathy for Tom Renney is absolutely delusional in my books.

UPDATE: One last thing.

Tom Renney: “This was a winnable game for us. I think we gave St. Louis something to think about. I thought they had to elevate their level of intensity because of how we were playing them. We lost the game on two faceoffs.”

Yes-siree-bob

We gave the 3rd worst team in the West, and the 8th worst team overall something to think about. Oh yeah, we totally did.

To quote my friend honestmoe from the ECSF boards,

The horses have left the barn, and got hit by a Ford Focus…

More later, angry now.

UPDATE: I apologize, I just got in and I am so exhausted I need to get to bed. I’ll do a writeup about tomorrows game late tomorrow, but right now, its 2:30 am, and I’m exhausted. Damn you work!

Posted these 2 little posts on the message boards, figured it was worth mentioning here.

Let me ask you this…

Before last night, how many florida panthers forwards could you name? 4? 5? Thats about as many as i could remember.

That scrubby lineup has outscored us by 17 goals while allowing 4 fewer goals than us.

A net 21 goal differential….21 mother effing goals.

You tell me coaching doesnt make a difference.

Followed by…

Lets compare their top 10 returning players (based on production this season) from last season.

1)Weiss, This season on pace for 56 pts, last season scored 42
2)Booth, This season on pace for 55 pts, last season scored 40
3)Horton, This season on pace for 53 pts, last season scored 62
4)JBo, This season on pace for 44 pts, last season scored 37
5)Campbell, This season on pace for 40 pts, last season scored 18
6)Dvorak, This season on pace for 36 pts, last season scored 17
7)Zednik, This season on pace for 37 pts, last season scored 26
8)Peltonen, This season on pace for 33 pts, last season scored 20
9)Kreps, This season on pace for 21 pts, last season scored 25
10)Skrastins, This season on pace for 18 pts, last season scored 5

It’s interesting, of the 10 best players returning from last seasons team, only 2 are on pace to have worse seasons. After losing their best player (By far and away) in Jokinen, they somehow were able to get more talented magically overnight. collectively this group, the exact same players from last season, added 101 points while adding ZERO players, count em, ZERO players on the forward line of consequence.

The only difference here, is the coach. THATS IT.

The team went from 22nd in the NHL in goals per game, lost Ollie Jokinen, and jumped up to 15th in the NHL this season.

Coaching, its important.

Live By The Sword… – Rangers@Panthers Post Game Thoughts…

I’m going to keep this one short, Im running on fumes at the moment, just finished watching the game and I wanted to post a bit while the thoughts are still fresh in my mind.

The Rangers played a really good Tom Renney game tonight. They backchecked, they didnt give too many opportunities, and they kept a very strong offensive team down by playing their system.

They did all that, and they lost.

Why? Because once again, only 1 goal was scored, and once again, it was not by one of the high paid people who are brought in here to score those goals. It was a garbage goal, scored by your 4th line. It should lift up the rest of your team, make you pumped, get you energized. Instead the Rangers didn’t muster much in the way of quality chances…maybe 5 or 6 the entire game. The Panthers on the other hand swarmed the hell out of the Rangers, who managed to limit the shots on goal to 43, when it could have easily been 55-60 with the way those guys were going for it. Henrik Lundqvist was nothing short of spectacular, and we still lost.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

This Is Sparta!

Mixed Emotions – Capitals@Rangers Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 12th, 2009

On one hand you have the New York Rangers, spiraling out of control, suddenly pulling their season away from a precipice that you can never recover from. You have a team showing a ballsy effort, scoring goals, playing good defense (Henrik Lundqvist was not good, 2 of those goals he should have had, both Greens), keeping AO in check…in short, playing a very strong game. On the other hand you have Tom Renney essentially having his job taken away from him with another loss.

Now part of me is thrilled the Rangers were able to play well tonight. Id say a huge part of me. Like 80% of me. But there is still a decent sized amount of me that is annoyed that they won, because to me this was the one loss that might have made Renney lose his job. They would have been on a 6 game losing streak, they might have been stonewalled again, they might have been annihilated again. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) they were agle to play a strong game.

What part of the game really stood out to you? For me it was this.

  • Ryan Callahan, goal scored off of a rush.
  • Markus Naslund, goal scored off of a rush.
  • Paul Mara, goal scored as the trailer on a rush.
  • Only Lauri Korpikoskis goal was not scored directly off of a rush. Do you guys now see why I am so obsessed with this team playing an up tempo rush based, forecheck based, causing turnover based game? And really they kept the quality chances against down to about 10. Henrik had no chance on the first 2, which isn’t surprising when you are playing a team as talented as that one, but he really should have had both of Greens goals. They were both from far out, both unscreened, and on both Henrik dropped down way too early only to have the puck sail in just over his glove hand. So giving up only 2 “legit” goals which can be faulted on the defense ain’t bad is it? Especially when you net 4 yourself, all of which were legit, non BS goals. They were goals we earned, and generated, not fluke goals like Zherdevs in the disaster in Dallas.

I’ll say it one more time. We have the talent to play this type of game. We have the goalie to enable us to do this. We need to open it up, play faster, play stronger, play harder, cause turnovers. I don’t feel this team is beyond saving. I truly believe we have a good team. Its up to Renney to get them to play that way, and unfortunately, now we don’t have a possible savior to come in and do it. Renneys job is now secure.

P.S. Big thanks to the guys at NYRangerscast. They mentioned the blog which was cool of them. More importantly I have successfully demonstrated the power of my constant badgering of Renney. I have turned even the most ardent of supporters against them. Did you hear the way Eric went on and on about Renney? It was like listening to sheer poetry. How about Stevens rant last episode? Ahhhhhh, bliss, sheer bliss.

Dead last in offense. DEAD LAST. You’re telling me a team with Drury, Gomez, Zherdev, Dubinsky, Naslund, etc can’t beat a team like the Islanders for Christs sake?! I’m so digusted with this team right now I can’t even type.
