Turning Po….err Nevermind - Rangers@Canadiens Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 19th, 2008

About a week ago on the ECSF boards, I said I think the Habs could win the Stanley Cup. That the 3 teams that frighten me are the Sens, the Habs, and the Canes. Want to know why? Because speed exposes our blueline. We can’t handle teams that can fly through the neutral zone and make plays on the fly. The Habs are a damn good team folks, so shame on those of you who were making some inane comments in the middle of the game on some of these boards. Clearly the better team won, and frankly, I’m not sure why they haven’t beaten us before this. They are as good, or better than us every day of the week. I suppose that’s why so many of these games were close.

I’ll take the point, because we need it, but I don’t feel good about this one at all.

By the way, is anyone surprised that this came on the heels of the NYRangersCast talking about turnaround games?

*shakes head*

When will you guys learn… *sigh*

Scary - Rangers@Canadiens Second Period Thoughts…

I’m scared right now. You know, we were up 5-0 and I really did not feel comfortable. The Habs are just too damn good to be shut down forever. And lo-and-behold they have a flurry of about 6 straight minutes of utter domination against us and 2 goals there as well. They also got stupid by taking unnecessary aggression penalties led by New York native Komisarek, but that is what happens sometimes with youth.

5-2 does not make me feel comfortable at all heading into the 3rd. Luckily its the short change period, so I think we should be ok in keeping our guys fresh, but 3 goals isn’t tough for a team this good, especially if we take a penalty or 2.

This one could go right down to the wire.

Under Attack! Rangers@Canadiens First Period Thoughts…

Once again, Doob-Zilla took over a period. Not by fighting (which he did), not by passing (which he did) but by scoring the opening goal and setting the tempo for this game.

If you are going to cover Jagr, Dubinsky & Avery will torch you. If you are going to cover Dubinsky, Jagr and Avery will torch you, and so on. I gotta hand it to Tom Renney, the line changes he made were a masterstroke. He paired our hottest player, with our most important forward. Then distributed the rest of the offense on our 2 other lines.

It also doesn’t hurt that the goaltending from Montreal was kinda…well, not great. I don’t blame Price completely, but he didnt make any big saves.

Still though, 1 period does not a game make, particularly against a lethal offensive juggernaut like the Habs. The first few minutes are going to be crucial.
