Annoyed - Rangers@Islanders Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on April 4th, 2007

I’m annoyed right now. Even though ~2 hours since the game got over has passed, im still annoyed. My annoyance has nothing to do with the Rangers losing this one in OT. It has nothing to do with all our enemies winning. What it has everything to do is a combination of the reffing, AND Tom Renneys inexplicable decision to bench Petr Prucha.

Honestly at first I wasnt even sure that Prucha was benched, it wasnt really mentioned on the telecast when I turned it on, and so I didnt even notice it. Then, when the Rangers were on their first Power Play, i REALLY noticed it. Why? because not a single friggin person would go in front of the net. NOBODY, everything was to the perimeter, The Isles were sitting there, laughing at our PP who did nothing buy play patty cake with the puck. Speaking of Power Plays, that brings me to my next point, the reffing.

Let me say, unequivocally, the reffing has VERY LITTLE to do with us losing this one. We still had tons of chances, we still outplayed them, we still should have won. However, with that said, you can’t tell me you werent more than a little annoyed with the amount of blatant things they let go from the Isles. They let a lot of marginal stuff go from both teams, but the Isles got away with several elbows, one almost scary knee on knee w/ Brendan Witt and Avery, and several flat out punches to the face. And oh yeah, a few slew foots, a trip here and there, and a tomahawk slash on Nylanders stick in the waning minutes of O/T that SHOULD have given the Rangers a 2-man advantage with about 10 seconds to go.

I also have to question Tom Renneys decision to re-unite Shanahan on the first power play unit. When they were split apart, the PP went from like 17th in the league to somewhere around 6th, put them back together, nada. 2>1 a concept not always clear to some people.

Regardless, we still control our own destiny, 1 win and were in. Please dont choke, being a Yankee fan, that is all too familiar to me.

Projections:

How this works:

Basically what I do, is to take the points a team has managed till now, divide it by the games played, then multiply it by 82. That should accurately project what the team should finish like, unless there is an extreme streak one way or the other. I will no longer be including the points per game column because lets face it, you don’t care how many points per game!
