Thoughts On “The Cheap Shot Of The Century”

Posted by inferno272 on March 8th, 2007

Ill do a post game wrap and some projections a little later tonight, but here was my thoughts over on the hf boards about the play by Simon:

i think Joe Micheletti said it best. the hit could have killed Hollweg. a full on chop to the throat could have collapsed his wind pipe making him suffocate to death. any hit that could actually kill someone, should be a season long penalty. if its accidental, or in the natural progression of the game or even within the rules. i can look past it. but he could have KILLED ryan. id suspend him indefinitely. to me this is 10x worse than bertuzzi or mcsorley. only difference is the player who got hit wasnt seriously hurt.

The Rangers picked up play after about ~30 minutes of god-awful hockey, and you can thank 1 man. Sean Avery. This guy has Esa Tikkanen written all over him. Quite possibly the best acquisition via trade Glen Sather has made since bringing Jagr here 3 years ago. Rangers gotta be happy to be tied at this point. They certainly dont deserve to be.

Watch out for the Islander power play, the Rangers are getting caught with 2 and 3 men high guarding point shots leading to 3 on 1 isolations within 10 feet of the net. Its causing me mini-heart attacks every time I see one develop.

Sure, you can talk all you want about how the Rangers attempted something like 115 shots in the last game, and will be lucky to even get 1/2 that many in this one. But to me the most glaring difference is the skating. The Islanders have picked up their skating, the Rangers simply never started skating. This entire period can be summed up with the play of Jagr. Hes not skating, neither are the rest of the Rangers.

Henrik Lundqvist about to pull a DiPi? I guess we’ll find out. Hes been amazing.

Btw, am i the only one who threw up a little when they announced Craig Spada as one of the refs?
