Posted by inferno272 on February 24th, 2007

No thoughts this period, I want to hear the interview with Shanny, I’ll catch up with you guys in between periods 2 and 3. Rangers looked good, dont be discouraged by flukey goals people.

Projections 2/23/07-Penalty Calculations Coming Later…

Posted by inferno272 on February 23rd, 2007

How this works:

Basically what I do, is to take the points a team has managed till now, divide it by the games played, then multiply it by 82. That should accurately project what the team should finish like, unless there is an extreme streak one way or the other.

Current
Rank
Team Games Played Points Points
Per
Game
Projected
Final
Points
Projected
Rank
6 Atlanta 63 72 1.1429 94 6
7 Montreal 63 70 1.1111 91 8
8 Carolina 63 69 1.0952 90 9
9 N.Y. Islanders 61 68 1.1148 91 7
10 Toronto 61 67 1.0984 90 10
11 N.Y. Rangers 61 64 1.0492 86 12
12 Boston 59 62 1.0508 86 11

As you can see, it isn’t within the realm of impossibility for us to make it. Therefore using these numbers we can project what the Rangers would have to go over the remaining 21 games in order to secure the projected 92 points needed to secure the final playoff spot:

14-7-0
13-6-2
12-5-4
11-4-6
10-3-8
9-2-10
8-1-12
7-0-14

NO RESPECT-Devils@Rangers Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 22nd, 2007

Rangers lost, and maybe if the game were called straight up it would have been different, but heres one thing I do know. The Rangers get no respect from the refs of this league, PARTICULARLY when the play the Devils. If it wasnt so crucial to our season I would say its laughable.

Im going to do an in depth analysis on this later tonight, so ill wrap this up and try to finish my work.

Im pissed in case you couldnt tell.

Testy-Devils@Rangers Second Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 22nd, 2007

Things are heating up in this one, I have a feeling the 3rd will feature a brawl or 2. The period was marred once again by the Rangers with a few misplays that somehow overshadow their overall solid play. Its a shame too because if not for the deflected goal, the Rangers have a very comfortable 2 goals lead heading into the final stanza, but as we stand now, its a precarious 1 goaler. If the Rangers win this one, look at the PK to be the biggest reason, they’ve been flat out DOMINANT.

Giving It Away-Devils@Rangers First Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 22nd, 2007

As you may have noticed I didnt get around to doing the projections. Sorry about that, its been hectic preparing for the open house. Anyways, the period was more or less dominated by the Rangers but they only had a goal to show for it, and at the end are practically begging the Devils to take over the game. Why on earth you would take 2 penalties like that is beyond me. Marek Malik is just a walking nightmare. I dont know how he has that plus-minus, I dont know why we win so much with him in the lineup, but I do know the guy stinks, despite his beautiful pass to Marian err Marcel Hossa.

Hossas the story though, this kid has turned from goat to superstar almost overnight. He was a mediocre 3rd liner who could grind it out, and now hes putting up points like nobodys business. What a turnaround.

Deserving Better-Rangers@Devils Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 21st, 2007

Projections a little later tonight after i finish watching The Prestige. I’m gonna keep this one short. I love Sean Avery. The Rangers deserved this one, and they didnt get it. The Rangers clearly outplayed the Devils and just some unlucky bounces and inability to hit open nets cost us. Ive said it before, I can deal with losing games in which you play the right way. We played the right way and lost. Ive got no problems with that.

Let Me Count The Ways-Rangers@Devils Second Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 20th, 2007

Sean Avery is the man. No seriously, hes the man. Based on what I saw in the 2nd period this kid should be locked up for the next 10 years. Not only does he give that pussy Brodeur a shove (Brodeur would have you think he was hit with a wrecking ball) he also sticks up for his teammates, and in turn is causing his teammates to stick up for each other. I love this kid. Oh, and did I mention he was essential on the goal?

Slipping Away-Rangers@Devils First Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 20th, 2007

With 2 VERY important points at stake the Rangers actually played pretty well, though you have to tip your hats to the Devils who have come out flying. Really nothing to complain about for the Rangers except for Aaron Ward who has looked 2 steps slower than usual, which makes me think hes seriously hurt. This isnt a guy who complains about pain, but he is clearly slower than he used to be. An unlucky goal for Henrik as the puck hit off the iron, then banked in off of his leg.

When did Matt Cullen turn into Wayne Gretzky? Sheesh hes shown us some fancy moves here recently, not the least of which was tonights spin-o-rama which didnt go in.

PS is there a more annoying commentator than Chico Resch? Not many thats for damn sure.

Kristin KreukNow, you may be asking yourself, what exactly is the difference between this and HockeyRodents Berth-O-Meter? Well, heres the answer. While the Rodents mathematical analysis is both thorough and sophisticated, it doesn’t give me the relevant information I want to know. For example, you could tell me I had a .002% chance of marrying Kristin Kreuk. Unfortunately that number means absolutely nothing to me. If however you could tell me what the circumstances for the .002% chance to be a reality, like moving to Vancouver, or being a billionaire or whatever, then I might find the information more relevant. This in no way says anything about the Rodents calculations towards you, but towards me, it just doesnt mean as much.
