NHL INSIDER UPDATE

Posted by inferno272 on February 25th, 2007

Got more info for you guys…

Everything is all over the place, players are said to be going left and right.

Aaron Ward is likely to be involved in a 3-way deal between LA, SJ and NYR.

Jason Blake may have played his last game with the Islanders.

Now that KT is off the market, Bill Guerin, Gary Roberts and Martin Gelinas are the players that people are fighting for.

Do not be shocked if Sakic is dealt from Colorado to a team that overpays like the Leafs did for Brian Leetch.

And do not expect the Rangers to sit back, Sather still believe that this team can make the playoffs.

How this works:

Basically what I do, is to take the points a team has managed till now, divide it by the games played, then multiply it by 82. That should accurately project what the team should finish like, unless there is an extreme streak one way or the other.

Current
Rank
Team Games Played Points Points
Per
Game
Projected
Final
Points
Projected
Rank
6 Atlanta 64 72 1.1250 92 7
7 Carolina 64 71 1.1094 91 8
8 N.Y. Islanders 62 70 1.1290 93 6
9 Montreal 64 70 1.0938 90 10
10 Toronto 62 69 1.1129 91 9
11 Boston 61 64 1.0492 86 11
12 N.Y. Rangers 62 64 1.0323 85 12

As you can see, it isn’t within the realm of impossibility for us to make it. Therefore using these numbers we can project what the Rangers would have to go over the remaining 20 games in order to secure the projected 92 points needed to secure the final playoff spot:

14-6-0
13-5-2
12-4-4
11-3-6
10-2-8
9-1-10
8-0-12
