NHL INSIDER nails Forsberg trade, gives me more info…

Posted by inferno272 on February 15th, 2007

Kudos to NHL INSIDER, my source who called the Forsberg trade.? I take absolutely NO credit as I am sadly ignorant about things within the NHL that are not shown nationally on TV or on TSN.? He has kindly offered some more insight on some more rumors…
Vancouver is chasing Anson Carter to reunite him with the Sedin twins.

Buffalo is amongst the leaders trying to grab Eric Brewer.

Its the Offense Stupid!-Rangers@Hurricanes Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 15th, 2007

Its fun when youre right, and with me, it seems to happen so infrequently I figure I might as well bring something up.? Yes, I clearly said to the whole world we are out of it, all is lost, yadda yadda yadda.? Well, clearly we are not.? Ok, now that thats out of the way, lets get to something I (seemingly) was right about.? Our problems were not our Defense, our problems have been our Offense.? We are a puck control team, when we control the puck, we play well, when we play well, we play hungry, when we play hungry our forwards come back hard, when our forwards come back hard, it leads to shorter time our defense has to defend, when we retrieve the puck, we go back to offense.? Its a pretty simple formula, but its been one that has escaped this team for a long time.? Have the puck, make things happen.

This game marks a remarkable stretch of 4 straight games where we have played complete 60 minutes of smart hockey. We havent had a stretch like this since last year, thats for sure, and even then it was early in the year last year.? Glad to see were getting it back together, it even quells my Fire Renney comments for the time being.

More Of The Same-Rangers@Canadiens Second Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 15th, 2007

For once this year, “more of the same” is NOT a negative, who woulda thunk it.? Rangers continue to play complete hockey, its so strange to watch, its like early last year, only this time they are fighting for their playoff lives.? Newcomer Pascal Dupuis scored a goal off a pretty pass by Matt Cullen, but I still want to hold out judgement on him.? He looks active, but not necessarily productive, goal withstanding.? Actually the best part of the play on the goal wasnt the goal itself, but it was Dupuis using his speed to get to the puck first, and made a really great move to use the momentum of his body AND the Hurricane player on him to keep the puck away from them, then he passed it off to Ortmeyer, and that ended up being a goal.

Henrik has been great, really great.? Hes made a handful of showstopping saves, but youre going to need that from here on out.

19:30-Rangers@Hurricanes First Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 15th, 2007

If it werent for the last 30 seconds, the Rangers would have played a near flawless period.? They played really great hockey, continuing their streak of showing up for now 10 straight periods.? The problem arose, as it usually does with the Canes, on a rush.? Thats what this team does, very much like the Lightning, they generate offense off the rush.? If you can contain? that, they are a fairly easy team to beat because their D just isnt that great.? Its a shame that they had that one breakdown, they should really be killing the Canes, but once again it seems like a hot goalie is keeping them in it.? One can only hope the team builds on this, rather than feeling dejected.

More Insider news from NHL INSIDER:

The Rangers have interest in Todd Bertuzzi but it seems that Detroit are the front runners for his services right now.

It is still up in the air with the Peter Forsberg situation. As of right now the Nashville Predators are heavily pursuing him.

Chris Simon is on the trading block and a return to Canada isn’t out of the question. Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa are all pushing for his services.
