Carbon Copy-Rangers@Capitals Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 10th, 2007

I could have just watched the Tampa game over again.? Actually, did I just watch the Tampa game all over again?? I swear it was like watching the same exact game back to back, except this time the boards helped out the Caps to get 2 unearned goals.? Nevertheless, the Rangers clearly dominated the Caps.? It was 1-sided for about 53 minutes, 7 of which the Caps dominated against our 4th line.? Colton Orr will probably sit the next game, he wasnt particularly effective tonight, but thats ok.? He was there to fight Brashear, and contrary to popular opinion, I thought he kicked the crap out of Brashear, who bear hugged Orr to the ground and thinks that constitutes a win.

Still though, thats 5 points in the past 3 games.? Kind of what I predicted over on a HF boards thread about predicting the remaining schedule.? The thing I couldnt predict though was the sudden emergence of 3 lines that flat out click.? The top 3 are just flying right now, and even though the COP line was held pointless again, they clearly dominated the ice everytime they were out there.? Generating chances is just as important as scoring goals, if not MORE important.? If you get 1 or 2 flukey goals, it doesnt mean nearly as much as if you generate a dozen chances.

Rangers earned their points tonight, and have now played 9 straight periods of complete hockey.

Certainly enough to quell this writers insistence on Tom Renneys head, thats for sure.

Great Eight-Rangers@Capitals Second Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 10th, 2007

You expect the “Eight” im talking about to be Alexander Ovechkin.? Sorry folks, thats not what im talking about.? The “Eight” I am referring to is the amount of consecutive periods the Rangers have played “Great” hockey.? 8 and counting, and its a wonderful thing to behold.? Despite holding on to the slimmest of leads at 2-1, the Rangers have flat out dominated the Capitals.? Registering more than double the shots on goal, and keeping close the with physical Caps in terms of hits.

Jaromir Jagr, though goalless, could EASILY have had 4 or 5 goals so far.? It’s just amazing that they arent going in for him.? But as long as he keeps playing like this, the points will come.? Speaking of points, how about Marcel Hossa?!? Once in my doghouse for horrendous play, and inconsistent play, over the past month or so the kid has REALLY found his game. ? Although he only has 5 goals on the season hes playing like a guy with 30 (Marian Hossa anyone?).

The lines are all flying, I see no reason to change them for the next game.

Home Ice Advantage-Rangers@Capitals First Period Thoughts…

Can’t really complain about the period.? Sure, they are tied, but if you saw the game, you saw some pretty dominant hockey by the blueshirts, along with some really unfortunate bounces, hops, etc? The puck hopped over Nylanders stick, out of Ortmeyers stick, etc etc.? Could have been 3-0, instead all the bounces went their way.? It happens.

Loving the lines, though the 4th line clearly isnt having the same kind of effect as last night, except for the fight by Hollweg, which I whole heartedly love him for.
