Loving It-Lightning@Rangers Post Game Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 9th, 2007

I needed to bask, thats why this writeup took so damn long to put up.? That was just awesome to watch.? Not only a full 60 minute game by the Rangers, but 2 complete 60 minute efforts in a row.

Although there are a lot of proclamations that the Rangers are back, I find myself hesitant to agree.? The key is sustaining it.? Not for 1 or 2 games, but for every single one of the remaining 27 games.? Remember, the Rangers now have 57 points and 27 games remaining.? Thats 35 points they need to get, or something like 17-9-1.? While not necessarily impossible, it is by far and away a sure thing.? I still think the season is over, or more accurately, was over w/ the loss against the Red Wings.? But a monumental turn of events is not unheard of, just last year the Devils went on an improbably blitz to come from being outside the playoffs to winning the division.? Lets just see how things go in the next few.

It certainly was an unlikely game though.? The Rangers shutout one of the most potent offenses in the game, the Rangers only give up 3 power plays, they score goals from all over their lineup, including 2 from 4th liners, and they flat out dominate a playoff team.? All I can say is….Wow.

Make It 5-Lightning@Rangers Second Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 9th, 2007

For the 5th straight period, the Rangers have played superb hockey.? Call it what you want, Sean Avery, Desperation, etc, but the Rangers are playing inspired hockey (which by the way they should have been playing ALL YEAR).? However in the last 5 minutes Tom Renney may have done the unthinkable.? He may have (I say may have because it is possible it was just an aberration or some sort of injury i am unaware of) changed the lines for reasons unknown to me.? It is mind boggling to figure out why he would change the lines which basically have shown us Rangers fan the best hockey we have seen all year, possibly all decade.? I just don’t get it.? I hope to God I was mistaken or something, but I dont think I was.

Colton Orr is having a game of a lifetime.? A goal, a monster body check, and an ass whipping of epic proportions.

Avery:1st career goal as a NY Ranger
Orr:1st career goal in the NHL.
Hollweg:1st goal this year
Hossa:only his 4th goal this year.

Time to buy a lottery ticket?

Get Him The Damn Puck!-Lightning@Rangers First Period Thoughts…

Posted by inferno272 on February 9th, 2007

In a period where Colton Orr scored his first ever NHL goal, showing some of the ability that has caused me to call him a legitimate 4th line player, the overwhelming story is this:

That was the single best period of hockey the Rangers have played all year.? They played with heart, passion, desire, drive, aggression, skill, etc.? The only negative is they didnt get 2 pretty obvious penalty calls for power plays.? That is beyond their control, but the level of play we saw is not.? They are clearly building on the NJ game, and despite my endless proclamations that the season is already over, the Rangers seem intent on proving me wrong.? I hope they do.

Marcel Hossa, who has been the victim of many a joke by yours truly, has considerably turned his game around.? As I recently said over at the Hockeys Future message boards, Marcel Hossa has clearly turned his game around, and is worth of 1st line time.? I sincerely agree with that, and nothing I have seen shows me otherwise.? The kid is proving me wrong…perhaps that will be a pattern all the way through the end of the season.

One can only hope.
